Calcium Transport and Ultrastructure of Red Cells in fl -

چکیده
Reported findings of elevated total calcium (Ca) contents in erythrocytes (RBCs) from patients with $-thalassemia intermedia (fl-TI) prompted the question of whether the state and transport of Ca in these RBCs are similar to those in sickle cell anemia (SS) RBCs where the increased Ca is compartmentalized in endocytic inside-out vesicles and extracted by exposure of the cells to the Ca ionophore A23i 87 and a Ca chelator (ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid) and the levels of cytoplasmic free ionized Ca ([Ca2 ],) are normal. We confirmed a high total Ca content of 5i ± i 3 mol/L RBCs in splenectomized (SPX) /9-TI and 24 ± i smol/L RBCs in non-SPX fi-Tl. Unlike SS RBCs, however. most of the increased Ca was in the lighter. presumably younger /9-TI RBCs, and about half the Ca was not ionophore mobilizable but apparently firmly bound, possibly to remnants of organelles in nucleated and other young RBCs. In the denser RBCs from non-SPX /9-TI, total and extractable Ca amounts were normal. fl-TI RBCs loaded with the Ca chelator Benz 2 showed an initial influx of Ca in the

Effect of starvation on growth, histology and ultrastructure of digestive system of juvenile red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii Girard)
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of 20 d starvation on growth, survival, histomorphology and ultrastructure changes in the digestive system of juvenile red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Juveniles were divided into two groups: a food-deprived group and a control group at 9 day after hatch (DAH). Individuals were sampled at 14, 20, 29 DAH. During the 20 d fasting per...

While the effect of changes of stimulus waveform (quasitrapezoidal and rectangular current pulses) on nerve activation is clear, but there is no evidence on the effect of quasitrapezoidal pulses on ionic currents of cellular membrane. In the present study, the effect of depolarizing quasi-trapezoidal current pulses, in comparison with that of depolarizing rectangular current pulses, on firing...
متن کاملMorphological and structural characterization of blood cells of Anadara antiquata
Blood cells are key component of organism for their survival and has profound role in defence mechanism of invertebrates similarly in bivalve species, the key role is healing wound and nutrients transportation. The Anadara antiquata is unique because of haemoglobin in their haemolymph and it is commonly found in Pakistani coast. Present investigation revealed three types of Blood cells, namel...
